We are a small fleet shop, 5 bays, located midway between Camp Verde and Cottonwood, AZ, that has grown to the point of needing another technician. We are more than willing to train a person that is just starting in the industry, but would also hire a person with a several years of experience.
We have a pretty small client base, most of whom we know on a first name basis. IF we accept a client, we will work on just about anything they have. You will see the same vehicle several times a year. We only work for good people, life is too short to work for the other kind.
The majority of the vehicles we work on are cars, light and medium duty trucks, both gas and diesel powered. Just for fun we also do some work on heavy duty trucks and some equipment. We do know our limits and are not afraid to say no to some work. For example, we do not do internal engine repairs or engine replacements on heavy duty trucks, nor do we do tires or body work. We do very little engine diagnostics on heavy duty electronic engines.
The medium duty trucks have different bodies on them, some of that mounted equipment we will work on and some we will not. We work on some transit buses that are mounted on C4500 chassis.
We are open Monday to Friday between 6:30 and 4:30. Between those hours there is flexibility for start and stop times. You are only expected to work 40 hours a week.
There are several paid holidays each year. All training is paid for as well as the time spent at training, if out of town, meals and hotels are paid for. Our time off policy is pretty liberal, just give us a few days advance notice.
After one year of employment there is 1 week of paid vacation, after 3 years there is 2 weeks.
We pay hourly rather than flat rate. There is a $4,000.00 personal tool budget for each tech. Last year our techs, individually, made more than the average household income for the area. Last year, each person in the shop made bonuses that were equal to one month’s wages.
We teach our employees the business of the business. They see a profit and loss statement every month so they know how the business is doing. At years end, as a group, we make the next year’s budget, everybody has input.
The shop supplies scan tools, large tools and specialized equipment. The tech is responsible for small tools, sockets, ratchets ½’ drive and under, wrenches 1 1/8 under, as well as other hand tools.
The shop supplies each tech a computer, we have Cummins Insite, International DLB, NED and online repair information, Alldata for light duty repair info, an Autel scan tool, an older Tech II, a Matco Determinator, a Pico lab scope.
The technician we are looking for needs to be a team player that is able to work independently. They need to have a mechanical ability and not be afraid to try new challenges. As stated earlier we are willing to train a person with limited experience but would also hire someone with several years of experience.
A good attitude and attention to detail is much more important than experience.
