Passively Looking for Shop Foreman/Technician jobs and is willing to relocate for the right position.
I have been in the business for 23 years. Started at the bottom sweeping floors at my Grand fathers shop. I went to work for his brother at a tire shop after he retired. I learned the tires, alignment, front end and how to work clean at that shop. It came to a point where I had to move on to move up so I left that shop to work for another uncle. During this time I became a very competent B tech and did all the usual B tech type repairs, engine repair, transmission and clutch R&R, basic diagnosis, proper inspection and efficiency. This was another time when I had to move on to move up. After 1.5 years with my first uncle and then 4.5 with the second, I looked to start my life not in the family environment. I spent 6 years killing the flat rate game at two other shops. One was a small mom and pop service station attached to a refueling/convenience center. I spent this time really fine tuning my efficiency and eliminating as mistakes in my performance. the last 11-12 years have been spent at a shop that had/has potential to be great but can't seem to figure out the ownership/management part to complement my abilities. Here I continued to beat the flat rate game while honing my diagnostic abilities. I'm always looking to improve. So it looks as though this is the time to move on to move up situation again.
I am above average in all levels of repair. Efficiency, Diagnosis, Repair and Vision.
I have for the last 20 years tracked my hours and maintained the highest efficiency compared to the other co workers. The percentage has been near 100%.
Currently other shops in town send their problem situations to me. I travel around the country to train with the best. I attend Vision in Kansas city. I went to ATE in Seattle this year and I will be attending Automechanica in Chicago this year. Others that i have attended in the past have been AVI in Vegas and CAN in Chicago. I try to make sure I hit 3-4 of these this year.
When making repairs I follow a procedure to maximise my success rate. I literally wrote the procedure page in the company employee manual. I will send you the file if you ask. I am the guy that makes sure the job is done right, on time, and verified before returning the vehicle.
I see the stuff that the other guys can't/won't. The way the flow of a shop should be. I am always looking for the stuff that causes inefficiency and un-happy customers. I keep my ear to the tracks to make sure I can be prepared for the future. I know I am not the best. I know I need to constantly improve or I will not make it. I make mistakes. I learn from those mistakes.
Tools and Equipment
All the basic hand tools and then a great many specialty hand tools. I have the collection of tools and tool box that you would expect from a guy with my time in the business. They are the best tools and not the cheap stuff.
I also own my own diagnostic tools. Picoscope and all the accessories to go with that ie amp clamps, test leads, back probes, ignition leads, DLC break out box, and pressure transducers (WPS500 and First look). Also the laptop and waveform library I have amassed. I also have the NVH kit for the picoscope.
I have the Cardaq-M J2534 programmer, VCM2, Tech2, laptop, battery maintainer and some experience.
I have my LSID for locksmith and security programming.
I have infrared cameras, Snap On Evap diagnostic smoke machine, and Verus Pro scanner currently up to date.
I have my own BG induction cleaning tool and PS flush, Transmission, and Brake flushing machines.
I own a freon recovery and recycling machine.
The best tool I have is my mind and my ability to research. I read wiring diagrams and repair Network systems.
I am looking to find a shop with the proper equipment. This includes all the equipment I own and factory scanner and subscriptions for all makes they service. The Shop I am interested in will know the value of what I am and be able to pay on a salary scale.
I own my own shop and currently work by myself and for myself. I am licensed to do work on cars and am fully insured.
