Passively Looking for Educator/Instructor jobs within 100 miles of Mission Viejo, California.
Experienced, excellent automotive technical trainer and writer. My most recent experience was teaching for Toyota/Scion/Lexus but looking for a position that is more challenging and fulfilling. I'm a former shop owner, former dealership technician, former tech trainer for Honda / Acura as well. I have an award winning passion for education excellence. I've worked with auto programs in secondary, post-secondary both public and private, and industry groups (such California Auto Teachers). If you need a presentation quickly and accurately, I am also an experienced and trained curriculum writer, and I have written and presented programs on many customer service skills as well as countless technical classes. I'm willing to travel as needed and enjoy the classroom / teaching shop environment as well as visiting and/or teaching techs in the dealership environment too.
Tools and Equipment
I am competent with about any Lab Scope (my brand is Pico but I can use any), various scan tools, various online technical information sites (manufacturer as well as aftermarket). Alignments, air conditioning (including the new R-1234yf refrigerant), brake service (with on-car lathe), engine rebuilding tools, DVOM, other electrical test tools, and many industry-standard precision measuring tools. There are very few automotive tools that I am unfamiliar with.
Develop and deliver technical training to 1700 Toyota technicians in the greater LA area. Present classes with primarily hands-on exercises, supplemented by PowerPoint and discussion.
Research, develop and deliver classes on new technologies. For example, I am the only Toyota Fuel Cell Vehicle trained instructor in Southern California. I also enjoy teaching the "high end" classes such as networking and oscilloscope use; but at the same time I love working with less-experienced techs as they learn the basics of engine overhaul and electrical troubleshooting.
Support Affiliated college programs: I'm responsible for coordinating the Region's support efforts for these programs. There are 4 of these schools from Ventura to San Diego. I actively support these schools with regular visits and offering instructor -level training.
Technical Trainer, Training Center Manager
I was recruited to Honda on an internship program, where I wrote the New Model handbook, class and e-Learning for the new Honda Insight hybrid vehicle. I was hired full-time as a curriculum writer and then promoted to Training Center Manager for Northern California. I worked with the Honda PACT program with area schools and with CAT (California Auto Teachers) to provide training to different groups of students in both Northern and Southern California.
