G.M. has used a start/stop system in several vehicles in
2014 and 2015. These are dual battery setups. Charging the
main battery should be as I described, through the BSM. If
the charge procedure is performed incorrectly or if the
battery has been replaced, a BSM reset/learn should be
performed. This is done with the scan tool.
In 2016 and 2017, the start/stop system is different. The
dual battery system is no longer used and either the 12v
power module or the super capacitor system is used. This
saves adding another battery in the trunk. The charging
method is as described. The BSM reset/learn is no longer
available in the scan tool and the vehicle needs to sit for
3 hours instead for a power on reset to take place.
