40 years in roughly. Owned shop as partner with my father 18 years, and worked under him for 12 years prior to that (Since age 10!). Trained and experienced in service advising, shop management, multiple management and advising certifications, currently working as Shop Foreman and Diagnostic Specialist overseeing 5 techs and troubleshooting work for entire shop. Experienced in labscope, enhanced scantool use, gas analyzer, current probes, and use of various specialty diagnostic tools. Beta tester for multiple tool companies for 7 years. Former BAR technician advisor, reporting directly to Sacramento regarding CAL SMOG industry issues and fiel requirements. Current shop had 80% fix it right 1st time average when I arrived. within 3 months number rose to 94%, and stayed mid 90s during my tenure. No employee has ever had a problem with me that couldnt be worked out in friendly manner, and most all coworkers at my old shop and the shop I currently work for consider me the 1st tech they will ask for help without reservation. Have handled consumer complaint responses with 100% success rate at my shop, and keeping this shop in the 90s (when a complaint is filed, the shop settles the matter with the consumer without issue, OR the shop was found to have done everything legally and properly by AAA or BAR standards. (barring unforeseen occurrences or unintentional employee mistakes that were later corrected).
I have been married 18 years, I have 2 small children who are both Autistic and that consumes the majority of my time when not working. I used to restore classic mustangs and cougars as a job and hobby in my teens and 20s. Several show winners and magazine feature cars. Still play around with them when the chance presents itself. Willing to listen to offers always, but to relocate, the offer would need to be golden, in an area with very good support services for my children which will generally mean large metropolitan areas only at least at this time. Never done any drugs in my life (no need, no desire), and have no problems with flexible hours for work environments with rotating schedules. I like figuring it out. more important than the pay...which is why I request the harder ones and work salary the past 7 years. allows me freedom to not worry what lengths I can afford to go to. I do whatever it takes because the pay is the same. During Covid my previous job of 15 years was closed, so I moved to a couple of different chainstores. 2nd being transmission specialty, was decent. learned a fair amount about transmission diag and systems integration and how to diag one system through another. That job ended as of April 23, so Ill be looking again. Smog license still current, mostly at my age Im better suited to diagnostic specialty and or shop foreman like I was at Complete Auto for a decade.
Other tidbits...hmmm. ASC emissions chair for a year. Researched and made assessments of Cal Smog and best plans/advices for ASC and member shops to approach the future with. Worked at California BAR as a technician advisory council member for 2 years, Reported directly to the Chief on Cal Smog stuff. Got a perfect score on my 1st computer smog exam. Been near perfect on a few others. (It would be easier if they didnt have wrong answers as their preferred choice!)
