ASE's L1 test consists of 50 questions surrounding the analysis and diagnostics of general power-train, computerized power-train controls including OBD-II systems, ignition control systems, fuel and air induction systems, emission control systems, and emission Inspection and Maintenance (I&M) failures. Certification expires after 5 years and unlike most other ASE tests, the re-certification test is the same length as the original certification test.
