The PSG (Parallel Shift Gearbox) is a double-clutch gearbox with either a dry or oil bath clutch assembly. Even and odd gears are banded separately in the gearbox housing on interlocking shafts. The two shafts are coupled separately by two nested clutches. When the driver chooses to change gears, the desired gear is first engaged on the shaft that has an open clutch, then simultaneously, the engaged clutch is released while the other is engaged.
